Bountiful harvest in 2016

2016 has been a bumper year for apples! Practically every fruit grower in Cumbria has had a greater-than-usual crop. The late spring stayed warm right through to the end of June and was followed by mild damp weather which swelled the fruit. Then September and October were sunny once more, providing ideal ripening weather.

It remains to be seen how this translates into cider. The fruit could perhaps benefit from a bit more sweetness, but may yet make a fine vintage. Only time will tell.
