After the glorious summer of 2016, it is no surprise that 2017 has been a bit of a wash-out. After a good spring and early summer, it just went soggy and cool. The crop is well down on last year’s, but the good news is that some apples did well and show promising flavour. In the fermenters so far, we have some Blakeney Red pears from Acorn Bank, a Major / Katy blend and some Tom Putt. These will be followed by some Dabinett (blended with dessert apples) when the fruit is ripe.
The volumes will be down on 2016, so that will have to stretch a little so that no-one is disappointed by a Mosser cider shortage!
